Awnings Offer More Than Shade

Awnings Offer More Than Shade

Awnings can offer as much protection in the winter months as they do in the summer. In the warm months we look for shade, protection from the intense desert sun and the cooler surfaces that awnings provide. Awnings over windows shield the glass from direct sun, thereby reducing heat rising indoors. Covered doorways offer a protected area for guests, or staff and customers for a business. We sometimes forget what winter can bring in New Mexico.

From Las Cruces to Taos, winter temperatures fluctuate, rain comes in, and sleet and snow to northern areas. Even southern locations can see freezing nights and the cover that awnings provide can reduce puddles and ice from forming. And in the north where snow is common, doorway awnings can shield steps and walkways from slippery snow accumulation. We design and build awnings that serve the purpose demanded in each location. A canted awning covers an entrance and the steps leading up. Domed awnings provide a rounded surface for snow and rains to slide off away from the protected area. An awning that is wider than the doorway can create more coverage and shield a greater area below.

We are often grateful for awning shade in the summer but consider the benefits that same awning offers in the winter months. A sheltered space out of the weather, the welcome that cover extends to family, guests or customers alike. The doorway awning promises warmth and hospitality in the cold months, and shade and cooler temperatures in the warm months.
